Tooth Fairy Made Her Visit

Do you still believe in magic? We all (well, I hope) did when we were little. Oh, the joys of being little and believing there was a Tooth Fairy along with the rest of the mythical holiday characters. Just because there are no real holiday characters or The Tooth Fairy doesn’t mean there’s not any magic. There’s still magic in all of us. It comes from the heart. It’s the kindness that’s spread every day.

The Tooth Fairy was finally able to make it to our house. Not for one tooth either. Oh no, she had to come to get two of those bad boys in two days.

Back at the beginning of September, two of Shelby’s permanent teeth started coming in on the backside of her baby teeth. We had a dentist appointment that week as well. While at the dentist’s office, the dentist told us if we didn’t get those two teeth out within a month that I would need to schedule an appointment to have them extracted. The two permanent teeth needed room to move to where the baby teeth were.

Shelby didn’t want to go through an extraction, so we made a plan. She was to wiggle those teeth every day, make sure she was biting into her food using her front teeth and eat harder fruit/veggies (i.e. apples and carrots).

We were almost at the deadline, and I was getting worried we were going to have to make the appointment. And then on Thursday, Shelby came home from school showing me one of the teeth was hanging on by a thread. She literally could bend it all the way down, back and forth, but she would not let me touch it.

Her Teeth Story

The next morning (Friday), Shelby sat straight up in the bed and screamed, “Mommy!!” Scared me, and to which I replied, “What?” Shelby said, “My tooth!” She folded her hand open to show me her tooth was in her hand. It came out sometime during the night while she was sleeping. I’m thankful she didn’t swallow it. She said it was swirling around in her mouth when she woke up and felt it. She was so excited, and I was too.

Because it was my first time being the tooth fairy, I started a poll in a group on Facebook. The poll simply asked what was the tooth fairy getting nowadays for the first tooth. Due to Shelby’s hard and consistent work for a month, I decided on doing $10 for the first tooth. After that, I decided to do $5 for the second tooth and $1 for the rest. Our plan for Saturday was going apple picking, and we did. While there, we could wash apples and try them in the orchard to taste each variety. Shelby had washed an apple and was snacking on it when all of a sudden I heard her say, “Mommy, look! My tooth came out!” She was very excited about that. So far, that is all the teeth she has lost, and my role as tooth fairy is put on pause until the next one.

And there you have it, two teeth in two days and a busy Tooth Fairy. I’ve been told once they start, it doesn’t take long before all the baby teeth come out. We haven’t made it there yet, so we shall see. I’d love to hear your Tooth Fairy stories. Please let me know in the comments.
